Description

Louis Moreau Gottschalk (1829-1869) was an American composer and pianist, best known as a virtuoso performer of his own romantic piano works.

Gottschalk wrote Pasquinade in 1869. Published initially in that city, the work was first circulated in the United States shortly after Gottschalk’s death. Pasquinade was a precursor to ragtime jazz and was enormously popular, especially in the composer’s hometown of New Orleans.
